Fun, fun, fun! (Route 415 and Pacayas to San Rafael de Irazú.)

It was a misty Sunday morning as I headed out to meet my friend Fran for an “all asphalt” trip. (Grin.)

We met at the Zurquí gas station, where soon his cousin Rodolfo and friend Franklin joined us. Nice guys! Considerate gentlemen on the road, which I always appreciate. 🙂

We rode down route 32 to have breakfast at El Fogón de Doña Lola. It was a lovely ride without traffic. This mountain pass is quite enjoyable when there are few cars on the road, and it’s not foggy or raining. Wide curves and wild nature!

How about these gorgeous red GSs of Fran and his cousin? 🙂

From La Herediana, we took route 415 over to Guayabo. I love this route. It has great views and is lots of fun, despite it being mostly asphalt. There are a few small sections of easy gravel, and one M where the road was fixed after a major landslide — where one goes up, down, up, and down on gravel. No big deal. Just more fun.

There is a man who sells gasoline along the route, though I forget exactly where. There is a small sign though.

We did not stop for photos, enjoying the pleasure of simply riding, but the vistas are wide and gorgeous on this route and on the way to Santa Cruz. (And by the way, the road between Guayabo and Santa Cruz in now fully paved.)

The best part of the trip was when Fran decided to take us up to San Rafael de Irazú via some narrow routes along the foothills of the volcano, along winding up and down roads. Yay!!! (The main reason I wanted to publish this post.)

Wow, wow, wow! I was so happy to do some surprise adventure riding, though my back tire is almost bald. (Time for a new one, this time Motoz RALZ. I love the grip that my front tire has with it.)

Some parts of the route where a bit rutted and rocky, but it was all OK. Just more fun, fun, fun!

We ended up riding by the Cerro Pasquí, which I have only done once before. I hope to revisit these routes again, in the summer, hopefully with Recon CR.

What a fabulous morning. My friend Fran knows many hidden routes since he is a bicycle rider. (Though at one point he said he was doing recon. 🙂 ) I am so lucky to be gifted by his invitations to join him on his riding adventures every now and then. They are usually fabulous. Thank you, Fran!
