Here comes the rain again (La Culebra y La Zopilota!)

I have taken a few short, solitary riding trips lately, which have been good for my soul as I process different situations in my life. Those of us who are passionate about riding know that wind therapy does indeed work. There is something soothing, comforting, and spiritual about immersing oneself in natural beauty as one glides from one unfolding scene into another.

One was a trip to San Ramón to see a CHEAP, non-brand motorycle! Hahaha! You will hear about this soon enough. I came home via LLano Brenes. This is a beautiful, asphalt route with lovely views, with only a bit of gravel on the low part. When the weather is good and there is no traffic, riding is simply…marvelous, my dear. Marvelous.

They have put signs up to remind drivers to use low gear when going down. One of about three signs had a typo which I found quite amusing, especially since I do know wear Glow Gear. 🙂

The other peaceful, solitary ride was my usual trip to Caldera for breakfast, followed by Tivives beach for 10 minutues of the wild blue yonder of the sea’s horizon.

There was a local clean-up crew there. Good job everyone!

So yeah. I do enjoy riding alone (as you know) and this is one of the reasons I am buying a CHEAP (Hahaha!), non-brand motorcycle. I want to do recon alone, and I don’t do that much on Sahara.

AND, I also LOVE riding with good friends! On Sunday, July 16th, the 23-year anniversary of the day I quit smoking Marlboros, I went riding with RECON CR! Oh, I was so happy to see the TEAM! I think we were all happy. 🙂

We had breakfast at Restaurante El Mirador in Naranjo before heading to Zapote to do recon down to La Quina and Buena Vista (on the way to La Culebra). A friend had told me the route was OK. (But it turns out he did the route from Santa Elena to Zapote.)

Calle La Quina is a narrow lane of loose rocks and shale. We stopped briefly, then decided to continue.

Ater a while, we decided to turn around. We did not know how steep the route could be up ahead, and the rain made it a bit riskier. We will most likely return in the dry season. This little route leads to Beuna Vista, a small little town.

The guys turned Sahara around, and Christian and Harold helped take my motorcycle up about 75 meters past from where we were. Having ALMOST lost control of Sahara earlier, I was a bit nervous. 🙂 It happens. Grateful to have tall, strong men to support me during those moments.

We decided to take another route (141) to La Culebra, which I had done once before with my friend Sergio. This is mostly paved with a part that is easy gravel and quite lovely.

We came out on route 702, wanting more adventure.

So… we headed up to Llano Brenes to go to La Zopilota rock in Los Altos de Naranjo in Atenas. Part of this route up is broken concrete, the last part up a bit steep, and the way down is also steep with some sharp turns. Again, I wouldn’t want to do it in the rain! (The weather had cleared once we got past San Ramón.)

It was nice to be up there again. Great views.

It was a fun day, despite the fog and light rain during most of it. And, the recon part was also fun, even if we did turn around. Yeah. What a fulfilling feeling it is to enjoy

RIDING IN COSTA RICA: FEEL THE BEAUTY. KNOW THE LOVE.

Sunday’s ride: July 16, 2023

Song: Here comes the rain again.

Here comes the rain again
Falling on my head like a memory
Falling on my head like a new emotion
I want to walk in the open wind
I want to talk like lovers do
Want to dive into your ocean
Is it raining with you?
