Double Whammy! Zapote to Santa Elena and Bajo Rodriguez to Las Rocas

Oh, it’s just so much fun to ride on new routes!

Yesterday, under beautiful, clear skies, my friends Jorge and Henry and I took the new road — Calle La Paula –to Candelaria/Palmares to go towards San Ramón. I like this route because I can see Cerro Atenas, where I live, across the way. And, as it is not well known yet, there is little traffic on it.

We headed over to Soda Diana in Los Angeles de San Ramón for breakfast. Skies were not that great, but it all turned out to be perfect. We headed to Alto Villegas and route 703 to take a left towards San Luis and Zarcero. I like these routes. Lovely views.

As we went through Zarcero, the skies cleared!

Jorge took us on a little detour/loop near Tapesco. Everytime I go by Zarcero, I want to explore the roads around it, so I was delighted when he did this. It inspires me to go explore more.

In Zapote we took the first left towards Santa Elena (not la Quina road which Recon CR had recently taken part way).

This is a lovely route that winds through miles and miles of cattle pastures. Peaceful!

Jorge said that on a clear day one can see the lake in Nicaragua.

There is one loose downhill part, but not too complicated.

This route connects with the new highway to Ciudad Quesada (a total shame that it is not in use).

We took calle La Culebra to La Vieja and went over to Bajo Rodriguez. This is a tree-lined, delightful route.

From Bajo Rodriguez we went to visit the basalt columns near the San Lorenzo dam.

This is another route I had been wanting to do for years. Yay! Double whammy of happiness.

The route from the San Lorenzo dam is easy gravel and goes gently up and down, coming out at route 702. Here the torch-of-liberty run was happening just as we came out! Today, September 15th, is Costa Rica’s Independence Day.

We came home via 702 to San Ramon, where we decided to ride up to Llano Brenes and take the road to Estanquillos. I have never liked this road, and I still don’t like it. 🙂 But, we did it!

What can I say? Riding a motorcycle off road is simply marvelous! Thanks to Jorge and Henry for another fun adenture

RIDING IN COSTA RICA: FEEL THE BEAUTY. KNOW THE LOVE. LIVE THE POWER.

Song: Amoreena

And when it rains, the rain falls down
Washing out the cattle town
But she’s quite safe up far away in her eiderdown
And she dreams of crystal streams
Of days gone by when we would lean
Laughing, fit to burst, upon each other…”
