On Saturday, January 2, 2020, my friends Althaf, Robert, Adrian (and his wife Berni) took a super fun 10-hour ride (for me) down to Mastatal, then up 301. Two routes I have been wanting to do for a long time.
We headed down Route 239 from Puriscal, enjoying curves and fantastic views.

Route 239 is paved for about 20 kilometers past Puriscal and the rest has been recently scraped. Smooth sailing!!
We then turned left on route 318 towards Mastatal, a route I have wanted to do for quite a while. This route is easy gravel, with only one or two semi-complicated downhill parts, but nothing out of this world. Great views!
We detoured at the Pirris River. So beautiful!!! My friends all had fun riding on the rocky sand. I took it easy since I my lower back and head are still recovering from recent falls. But I had fun just watching them have fun!!
After this, thanks to Althaf’s suggestion, we headed to Palo Seco beach for MORE FUN!

What a great morning. It was simply gorgeous watching all my friends ride on the sand and in the water. Althaf riding in the water in the sunlight was a beautiful site to see. Hahaha!! As Adrian said, “It may be bad for the bikes, but good for the soul.”
We then headed up route 301 to Acosta.

Route 301 is mostly paved, though poorly, with a thin layer of asphalt. The views above are gorgeous and wide. Coming up from Cangrejal, there are a lot of back-to-back switchback, uphill, hairpin curves.
Yes. A great way to start the new year, riding new routes with new friends! And, hopefully this year I will continue creating the new me I want to manifest in my life: free of my trauma triggers of freeze, fixate, fawn and enjoying the healing powers of “fun, flow, and flock!” I know riding has been THE MOST powerful way for me to love my life and love who I am! And now, since I mostly ride with friends, it gives me a chance to love and care for others! 🙂
