Magical San Gerardo de Dota

On Wednesday morning, as I was getting ready to go have breakfast with a friend in Dominical, I suddenly decided to pack an overnight bag. The thought of taking that straight highway there and back did not thrill me. I am so glad I did!!

After a detour to Pita Beach and the Barú river, I met my friend for breakfast, followed by a stroll in Dominical, and a delightful meeting with other friends. Connecting and relating, that’s what healing is all about!

Then, I decided to go spend the night at San Gerardo de Dota, to where I had never been. Why not? 😁

The ride to Perez was wonderful because of the clear skies, low traffic, and usual gorgeous, views.

I was surprised to find the road down to San Gerardo de Dota had been recently paved.

The trip down was a bit stressful for me because it has some hairpin curves on a narrow, one-lane road.

I just kept breathing and telling myself to relax my shoulders.🤣

This Savegre National Park is a magical area tucked within forested mountains and running along the Savegre River. The weather is cold, and I was deeply grateful it had not rained on my way down or during my stay. And that I got a great deal at the Hotel Sueños del Bosque.

As some friends had agreed to meet me for breakfast, the next day I left early, braving the narrow road up. 😄 It didn’t seem so bad, except for one curve on which only one car alone would fit. Yikes.

I hope to return one day with company to hike down to the waterfall and hopefully see a Quetzal bird.

Riding to meet my friends, I decided to head down to Copey on my way. That will be my next post.
