Yesterday, my friends Robert and Fritz and I, with a new companion named Juan Carlos, had a wonder-full morning taking lots of crooked trails! 🙂
First, we headed over — on route 219 — to the viewpoint on Irazú volcano where one can see an awesome perspective of the Turrialba volcano. On our way, we stopped at the Potrero Cerrado viewpoint as well. Route 219 is dilightful to ride when there is no traffic. It is well-paved with wide curves, hugged by different colored farms, and has awesome views of the central mountain range across the valley. Beautiful!

Then we took route 417 over to Turrialba volcano. This also has amazing views. It winds its way around and over the La Central, quite narrow in certain spots. What I love the most about this route is coming to spots where you can see the Turrialba volcano. Awesome! And finally reaching the main road to it. Super cool.

The road through La Central is in worse shape than ever, with lots of big, loose rocks and ruts. It’s about 700 meters, more or less. Wonder why it hasn’t gotten fixed. (And so it is.) After this, it is paved, and, yes, super curvy! Left, right, left, right, but with an easy decline. It’s all so much fun!

We had breakfast in Santa Cruz at a restaurant with a wide, big view of the Turrialba area. Peaceful and gorgeous.
Then we headed over to Juan Viñas to take Calle Congo down to an old wooden bridge and up on the other side of the canyon to the Tucurrique area.

From Juan Viñas, Calle Congo is gravel with some tight curves, but the decline is not steep, so it is relatively easy to do. Great views of the sugar cane fields and little houses below (no photos).
We stopped by the Swiss Bakery in Orosi (great coffee), before heading home, relatively early. Wow. Yeah. Another simply amazing Sunday, loving and living life to the fullest on the majestic mountains of Costa Rica, with good friends. FEELING OH SO GOOD! 🙂
RIDING IN COSTA RICA: FEEL THE BEAUTY. KNOW THE LOVE. LIVE THE POWER.

Date of ride: Sunday, October 16, 2022.
Thanks to Fritz and Juan Carlos for many of these photos.

Song: Tomorrow is a long time.
“… If today was not a crooked highway
If tonight was not a crooked trail
If tomorrow wasn’t such a long time
Then lonesome would mean nothing to you at all
Yes and only if my own true love was waitin’
And if I could hear her heart a-softly poundin’
Yes, only if she was lyin’ by me
Then I’d lie in my bed once again…”
