Top of the world! (Buenaventura via Miramar, Puntarenas. Rt 144.)

Having friends with whom I can ride means I can go places that I might not venture to on my own. 🙂 A few guys were willing to go exploring the roads above Miramar, Puntarenas, with me today, even though none of us had been there before. We had tons of fun!

Miramar is a pleasant surprise! Nice all around. Above it, in the San Buenaventura area, the views are amazing: both ocean views and mountain views all around. Stunning! I plan to go back to take my time and take photos.

Can’t see it in the photo, but this is an ocean view.

Luckily, we found a restaurant past Miramar for cool drinks.

At some point the road turns to gravel (and in some spots it was with loose rocks). This photo shows regular gravel

We intended to do the inverted V and go to Zagala vieja to return to highway 1, but somehow took a left turn and looped back around to a bit above Miramar, going through La Union. Fortunately, this downhill bit was paved, for it was steep and curvy — and beautiful!

We stopped at Caldera for “Churchills,” which are sugar bombs: cups of crushed ice with syrup, ice cream, condensed milk, powdered milk, and fruit.
